What is different about a Llama Foot?

Trekking with Llamas

Many llamas need to have the toenails trimmed just like humans. It depends on each llama, how fast their nails grow and what type of surface they walk on. Because of their soft and sturdy feet a llama makes an ideal pack animal in State Parks because they do not damage the ground like an animal with a hoof.

This is Charlie's front left foot, notice that he has two toenails on his foot.

Bottom of foot

The bottom of the foot feels like a hard leather pad. It is similar to the soft pad you see on the bottom of a dogs foot. Llamas do not have a hoof like a horse or cow.
